May is a month for recognition and moving upward and onward. And of course, at Cincinnati Children's, we are doing our share of both.

First up, we have Marc Rothenberg, MD, PhD, who recently received the Daniel Drake Medal from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Marc will tell you that he is just one of the team, but his relentless curiosity and ability to figure things out has been a key driver behind the excellent work that comes out of his lab.

We also celebrate our nurses this month who are so critical in delivering the outstanding care that is our hallmark. Specifically, take a moment to learn about Brenda DeMeritt, MHA, RN, who's been a pediatric nurse for 31 years and is a winner of this year's Torch of Excellence Award in Nursing.

Then we have dual awards that were given recently to Maisam Abu-El-Haija, MD, MS, medical director of the Pancreas Care Center, and her patient Bella by the National Pancreas Foundation at their annual gala.

You'll also want to read about John McAuliffe, MD, who is stepping down from his role as anesthesiologist-in-chief and finishing up some research projects before he retires. His is a story of dedication to making the surgical experience better for patients and staff.

And don't miss our behind-the-scenes peek at the Media Lab, where animators help kids and families learn about their conditions in ways that are fun and easy to understand.

Finally, see how one young patient overcame a clubfoot abnormality on both feet to become a sports champion.

No wonder Forbes has named Cincinnati Children's a top-10 place to work!
