Injury Prevention Team Spreads Word on Safety
Cincinnati Children’s Injury Prevention Team conducted car seat installation checks and handed out free car seats, bicycle helmets, and home safety items for National Injury Prevention Day on Nov. 18. The event, which was open to the public, was held at Vernon Manor from 10 am to noon.
Unintentional injury is the number-one killer of children in the United States. Serious injuries often lead to hospitalizations, emergency visits and primary care visits costing US families approximately $11.5 billion dollars per year. Leading causes of child injury include car crashes, suffocation, drowning and poisoning. The Cincinnati Children’s Comprehensive Children’s Injury Center (CCIC) studies injury care, trains health professionals, improves community injury prevention programs, and advocates for better local, state and national injury policy. It is the aim of the CCIC to improve population health, improve the individual experience of care, and reduce the per capita health care cost for pediatric injury.
