Service Achievement Award
Maya Dewan, MD, MPH
Division of Critical Care Medicine
Maya Dewan, MD, MPH, has made remarkable contributions to patient safety, informatics, clinical infrastructure, and education at Cincinnati Children's. She has taken on and executed multiple projects in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and throughout the institution to change clinical outcomes.
Her efforts to promote situational awareness in the Pediatric Intensive Care unit have resulted in dramatic changes in prediction of clinical decline within the ICU, leading to decreased code events for ICU patients. She has spearheaded work to define and identify potentially preventable codes, which is being disseminated nationally.
Dewan developed a curriculum for High Value Healthcare at Cincinnati Children's and organizes the annual events highlighting these efforts, which have not only ensured this essential education for our trainees on reducing hospital costs and charges, but also inspired several ongoing initiatives that have improved utilization throughout the institution.
Guided by her efficiency and organizational aptitude, she not only tackles her multitude of tasks, but lifts up, supports, and increases everyone’s productivity. It is mind-boggling to imagine what problems we could conquer with a department comprised of people like Dewan.
Service Achievement Award
Gary Geis, MD
Division of Emergency Medicine
Gary Geis, MD, has a strong, long-standing reputation as a leader in medical simulation training for healthcare providers. He has also played a critical role in Cincinnati Children's medical response and resuscitation, as a founder of the Medical Resuscitation Committee.
Geis has been at the forefront of medical simulation training and has had a steady and passionate commitment to ensuring Cincinnati Children's healthcare workers are as prepared as they could possibly be for a myriad of medical emergencies. He not only improves the care for patients at the medical center but is also a national leader in the field of simulation.
This year more than ever, Geis’s medical simulation skills have taken center stage as we move into Location G, the new Critical Care Building. His persistence, organization, and expertise have been exceptional, and his work will result in safer care for the children and a safer environment for those caring for them.
Finally, Geis is the consummate team player and collaborator. He is a relentless advocate for providers of all levels. He is the colleague whom everyone wants on their team. He is a selfless, service-oriented, and humble leader.
