July is always a time of transition at Cincinnati Children’s—it’s the beginning of a new fiscal year with new plans and new budgets; one class of pediatric residents graduates and a new class arrives; families adjust to kids being out of school, and so on.

In this issue, we salute Uma Kotagal, MBBS, MSc, a passionate advocate for children's health and innovator in quality improvement, as she retires from a remarkable 46-year career here. Her persistence in not being satisfied with the status quo helped make Cincinnati Children's "the best at getting better."

Another transition on the horizon is the opening of our long-awaited Critical Care Building. Read about what makes the new NICU state-of-the-art, as well as how our Talent Acquisition team is working with Avondale to provide community members with career opportunities.

This month also marks the 10-year anniversary of our partnership with the Lindner Center of HOPE, where we provide specialized inpatient mental health and eating disorder treatment to adolescents. Health Unit Coordinator Karen Williams gives her perspective on the program.

Get to know our new Administrative Fellows as they start their year learning about healthcare administration. And finally, you'll want to read about the winners of the Dr. Curtis Sheldon Compassionate Caregiver Awards.
