April has arrived, and with it, the feeling that spring is truly here. We are emerging from a particularly difficult winter with a sense of hope for better and brighter days.

Reason for hope #1: April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, so this issue features a story about how the Mayerson Center is working to extend its impact far beyond our walls to reduce trauma for children in our community who may never set foot on our campuses. In addition, we've included three accounts from Mayerson Center staff about how they care for these children and for themselves in this sensitive line of work.

Reason for hope #2: Jeff Simmons, MD, reflects on what we've learned (and are still learning) after a year of dealing with COVID-19. With three solid vaccines in our arsenal, we are doing our part to defeat this disease and get back to some semblance of normal.

Other reasons for hope include support for nursing mothers who want to provide their infants with the healthiest start in life (see our story on the Center for Breatfeeding Medicine) and the joy of helping our neighbors (see a recap of our Avondale Partnership).

Just for fun, we put together a gallery of famous visitors who have come to Cincinnati Children's to cheer our patients and families or to launch programs that benefit child health.
